Has Loss Prevention become a new line of business?

Hitherto, for many people over the world the term Loss Prevention always relates to the Retail industry, and mostly Anti-theft.  For long it has been a subject to combat Shoplifting or Employee Theft in retail shops. However, the Hong Kong Loss Prevention Association (HKLPA) takes a different view, in that it regards Loss Prevention as a new profession. For this reason, the HKLPA invites professionals from specific areas to join the association, whose responsibility, among others, is preventing loss(es).

What is Loss Prevention?

Most people conceive Loss Protection as only referring to Retails, however the Hong Kong Loss Prevention Association (HKLPA) takes a much broader view.  Not intended to cover loss prevention of physical health and human organs, the HKLPA is more concerned with those losses of monetary values ultimately in a business model.  What if the loss of a business' fame, reputation or data, it sounds no different.

How to become a Certified LPO®?

To become a Certified LPO®, a registered trademark of the HKLPA in the People's Republic of China, one needs to prove himself/herself relevant experience or academic qualifications in the area of Loss Prevention. He/She may apply for to the Hong Kong Loss Prevention Association and furnish with proving documents for certification purpose.  For those who are yet to be qualified, they may attend training arranged by the HKLPA subject to opening of classes.

Why join the HKLPA?

Joining the HKLPA presents every opportunity to keep in touch with Loss Prevention practitioners in this region. Hong Kong is a hub connecting China and other Far East countries. It is worth establishing relationships with people involved in Loss Prevention business especially those in Mainland China.

How to join the HKLPA?

One can join the HKLPA as a User of its website by way of online registration and its free of charge.  In addition, hr he/she can join as a Member by completing the Membership Application Form which is subject to the Board's approval and yearly subscriptions.  A Member is entitled to the benefits and is bound by the obligations as stipulated in the HKLPA's Consitution.  Or a company can join as a Corporate Member.
